172 Years of Fall Traditions at Mayer Brothers
Apples. Apple Cider. Apple Slushies. Apple Cider Donuts, Apple Pie, Apple Jam, Apple Sauce, Candied Apples.
It’s like Bubba from Forrest Gump got out of the shrimp business and set up an apple business in West Seneca, NY.
Well, it’s not Bubba. It’s Mayer Brothers. Fall officially kicks off with our requisite trip here to pick up some of our faves – the glorious homemade donuts and freshly milled cider. What started as a West Seneca cider mill back in 1852 has become one of the oldest family-run businesses in the state, now run by the 5th generation of the Mayer family. Over the last 172 years, the facility has expanded to include hard cider and spring water bottling, and an on-site bakery filled with fresh baked goods that attracts thousands of visitors on autumn weekends.
Once you walk in it’s hard to leave, as everything just looks so good.
I learned that they have a pumpkin patch out back and free horse-drawn hayrides on the weekends. Now that I’m a dad I have to care about that stuff…almost as much as ensuring I get my cider fix. Ok, maybe more. Don’t fret if you don’t have apples in your eyes. The old fashioned store has plenty for everyone, and just seeing it is worth your time. It’s the quintessential autumn experience in Western New York. Happy fall!
Mayer Brothers Cider Mill is open daily, 7am to 8pm
