The George Scott Big Band has been a staple of Western New York’s music scene since 2000, bringing big band jazz to venues across the region. Originally known as the “James White Apollo Big Band,” the group was renamed when George Scott became its youngest bandleader. Over the years, they’ve performed at major events like Canalside’s July 4th celebrations, the Queen City Jazz Festival, and the Lewiston Jazz Festival. With a talented lineup of musicians, including vocalist Melissa Kate and a full brass and rhythm section, the George Scott Big Band continues to captivate audiences with classic and contemporary big band sounds.
Melissa Kate is a versatile vocalist, actress, and writer based in Buffalo, New York. She has been the lead vocalist for the George Scott Big Band for over 17 years and is a touring member of Taylor Made Jazz. Her own ensemble, The Melissa Kate Project, blends jazz, theater, and storytelling to create engaging performances. Melissa has released two albums, “Blind Faith” and “Kissed by Kate,” and several singles, including “Beautiful,” “Western Jewel,” and “Prayer for a Christmas Eve.” She is also an arts educator and serves as the Senior Vice President of Arts and Education at Three 2 Go Music Alliance.
