10 Essential Buffalo Eats According to Afar
When it comes to regional foods, Buffalonians have it made in the (flavorful) shade. Everyone knows the city for its namesake culinary creation, the Buffalo wing (we just call ’em wings here), but there are so many other treats waiting for you at dozens of Buffalo restaurants, bars, candy shops, and pizzerias.
And when it comes to knowledge of Buffalo’s unique fare, food writer Arthur Bovino may be the foremost authority on the subject – releasing an almost 400-page book on Buffalo’s storied food history last year. In this recent feature for travel publication Afar, Bovino outlines Buffalo’s 10 Essential Eats and Where to Try Them.
“With everything from beef on weck to cup-and-char pepperoni pizza, Buffalo is a comfort food mecca,” Bovino asserts for Afar. “For a full picture of the Nickel City’s unique fare, you’ll need to work things like char-grilled hot dogs, steak sandwiches, and sponge candy into your itinerary.”
Bovino touts dishes and places like the wings at Nine-Eleven Tavern, the beef on weck at Schwabl’s, a hot dog with the “works” at Ted’s, cup and char pizza from Bocce Club and, well, we won’t spoil it all for you here…
